At ProNotary, we want to ensure our notaries understand the steps and requirements for offering Remote Online Notarization (RON). Since RON laws vary by state, it’s important for you to confirm eligibility and complete all prerequisites before getting started.

Common Questions
Q: Do all states allow Remote Online Notarization?
A: No. Each state has different regulations. Always confirm with your state’s Secretary of State office.
Q: Can I use any platform for RON?
A: No. States often approve only specific platforms. Using an unauthorized platform may put your commission at risk.
Q: Do I need special training to become a Remote Online Notary?
A: Many states require additional RON-specific training or certification. Please check your state’s requirements.
Q: I need a electronic seal, X.509 certificate and exemplar document.
A: We provide the electronic seal and exemplar document. Once you purchase an X.509 certificate from IdenTrust, you can register as a notary to access these items.
Q: I need to draw my signature on my exemplar document.
A: You can add a drawn signature to your exemplar document after successfully registering as a notary.
Q: Can I upload my own seal?
A: At the moment, no. We are working on giving notaries the ability to upload their own seal in the future. For now, the ProNotary platform will create a seal for you. However, you can use your own electronic seal by submitting it through a support ticket. Simply attach your seal file and our technical team will handle the manual update promptly.
Q: Can I use a different X.509 certificate?
A: No. The only X.509 certificate our platform currently supports is the IGC Basic Assurance for Notaries provided by IdenTrust.
