Overview
Many Remote Online Notarization (RON) sessions ask you to prove who you are before you reach the notary. You do not need a ProNotary account.

What You Will Do
Identity verification usually happens after document review, the Audio/Video Test, and E-SIGN and terms. Most sessions use both of the following:

Hold the ID fully in frame with even lighting and no glare over the photo or text. If the camera test failed first, see How to Set Up Your Device, Camera, and Microphone for a Session.
If You Get Stuck
You may skip identity verification if you are having trouble. You then go to the session or the waiting room. The notary finishes verification with you on the call. Do not leave the session after you skip.
International Signers
KBA is often unreliable without a U.S. credit file. The notary may ask you to use a valid passport instead. You cannot change that setting yourself.
Credible Witness
If you are joining as a credible witness, you must pass both KBA and Credential Analysis from a separate computer (not a phone), even if you are in the same room as the signer.
Common Questions
Q: I do not have a Social Security number.
A: KBA questions may not generate. Tell the notary. They may use a credible witness when their state allows it, or finish verification with you on the call.
Q: Can I upload a photo of my ID?
A: No. You must have the physical ID with you during verification.
Q: Do I complete identity verification again if I reconnect?
A: No. Use the same automatic sign-on link. You complete KBA and Credential Analysis once — before the session, or with the notary if you skipped.
