Overview

You are joining a Remote Online Notarization (RON) session as a signer, witness, or guest. The notary must use a computer. You may use a phone or tablet if your role allows it.

No extra software or app download is required. Everything runs in a supported browser. For the full requirements list, see System Requirements for Using the ProNotary Platform.

Prerequisites

A webcam and microphone

A supported browser (latest version)

A stable internet connection

Supported Browsers

  • Computer: Chrome, Firefox, or Edge (latest version)
  • iPhone or iPad: Safari only
  • Android: Chrome only

Important:

  • Copy the session link and open it directly in the browser.
  • Do not open the link inside an email, messaging, or in-app browser. The session will not work correctly.

Allow Camera and Microphone

After you open the automatic sign-on link, the workflow includes an Audio/Video Test (after document review). Webcam and microphone access must be allowed. JavaScript and cookies must be enabled for the platform.

1

Tap Allow when the browser asks

On iPhone, use Safari and tap Allow when the browser asks for the camera. On a computer or Android, tap Allow for the camera and microphone.

2

If Chrome blocked the camera

Go to Settings → Privacy and Security → Site Settings → Camera, allow the platform, then retry the Audio/Video Test.

3

Close other apps using the camera

Close other video calls and unused browser tabs, then run the test again.

Use a quiet, well-lit room so the notary can see and hear you. Minimum internet speed is 3 Mbps download / 2 Mbps upload. 10 Mbps download / 5 Mbps upload or higher is recommended. Avoid mobile hotspots and public Wi-Fi when you can.

Credible Witness

If you are joining as a credible witness, use a separate computer (desktop or laptop), not a phone, even if you are in the same room as the signer.

After the Test Passes

Continue the join steps in How to Join a Remote Online Notarization as a Signer, Witness, or Guest. If the session asks you to prove who you are, see How to Complete Identity Verification as a Signer or Witness.
