Overview
Wyoming commissions notaries public for a six-year term through the Secretary of State. Remote online notarization and remote ink notarization have been permanently allowed since July 1, 2021. There is no separate SOS RON commission or listed SOS RON filing fee. Indicate on the application (or email the Notary office) that you intend to perform remote notarizations and name the platform or other communication technology.

Who Can Apply
To be commissioned as a Wyoming notary public, you must meet all of the following as the current application and W.S. § 32-3 require:

Start Here: Six-Year Commission, Then Name Your Remote Technology
File the six-year application with the $60 fee. Check the remote-notarization box and list the platform. If you are already commissioned and later decide to perform remote acts, email [email protected].

Part 1: Traditional Wyoming Notary Commission
Skip this section if you already hold an unexpired Wyoming notary public commission. Remote authorization is a disclosure on that commission (or a later email), not a second SOS license.

Complete traditional notary education Review Notary Education Presentation and complete the attached exam, or attach a certificate from an entity listed on Notary Public as approved to administer notary education and examinations. |

Obtain a surety bond Optional. A bond or E&O policy is not filed with the Secretary of State or the county. |

|
Submit the traditional application Mail or deliver Notary Public Commission Application/Renewal with a $60 check or money order payable to the Wyoming Secretary of State. Credit cards are not accepted. Typical processing is 5 to 7 business days after receipt. |

|
Receive the appointment letter and certificate The Secretary of State emails the appointment letter and certificate of commission when processing is complete. Obtain a seal that meets Wyoming requirements before you act. |
Part 2: Online (RON) Commission
Wyoming does not publish an approved-vendor list. You may use a platform with multifactor authentication or another form of communication technology that meets W.S. § 32-3-111. Every remote act requires a simultaneous audio/visual recording. RIN is for acknowledgments only.

After You Are Commissioned

Do not perform a remote notarization until you have indicated that intent on the application or by email to the Notary office and you have technology that can record the session.

The $60 filing fee is from Notary Public Commission Application/Renewal. Confirm it there before you pay. Platform fees are extra. Credit cards are not accepted.

Common Questions
Q: Can I apply for RON first?
A: No. Remote notarization is part of the six-year notary commission. There is no separate first-step SOS RON license. New applicants check the remote box on the commission application.
Q: Does Wyoming approve a list of RON platforms?
A: No. The SOS does not publish an approved-vendor list. You name the platform or other communication technology and are responsible for meeting W.S. § 32-3-111. Entities listed on the Notary Public page are approved to administer education and examinations, not as RON platform endorsements.
Q: Where can I confirm a fee or form changed?
A: Use Notary Public and Notary Public Commission Application/Renewal.
