Overview
Nevada commissions notaries public and separately registers electronic notaries. Under NRS Chapter 240, an electronic notarial act includes acts performed using electronic tools or over the internet via digital tools and audio-video communication. You must already be an active Nevada notarial officer, complete electronic-notary training and exam, register the platform, and upload an exemplar.

To be commissioned as a Nevada notary public, you must meet all of the following:

Start Here: Traditional Commission, Then Electronic Registration
Complete the four-year traditional commission first. Then complete electronic-notary training and exam, register each platform on SilverFlume, and upload an exemplar.

Part 1: Traditional Nevada Notary Commission
Skip this section if you already hold an unexpired Nevada notary public commission. You cannot register an electronic notary platform until you are an active notarial officer.

Complete traditional notary education Complete the Notary Public Training Course and pass the Notary Public Exam before you submit the application. The SOS training fee is $45. |

Obtain a $10,000 surety bond Enter into a $10,000 bond to the State of Nevada. File it with the clerk of the county where you reside (or, if you live in an adjoining state, the Nevada county where you work). Obtain the Filing Notice. |

|
Submit the traditional application Submit the application, Filing Notice, and training certificate on SilverFlume. Pay the $35 application fee and $45 training fee ($80 total). |

|
Receive the commission and obtain a stamp and journal Use the commission certificate to obtain a stamp. Keep a journal of notarial acts as Nevada requires. |
Part 2: Online (RON) Commission
Nevada uses “electronic notary” for remote/electronic acts under NRS 240.181–240.206. Register each chosen platform and upload an exemplar from that platform. The existing notary bond covers electronic acts; you do not purchase another bond solely to become an electronic notary. Electronic registration expires with the traditional commission.

Pay and submit The electronic notary registration fee is $50 (plus the $45 eNotary training fee; $95 combined as the handbook totals those two items). Do not perform electronic notarial acts until the registration is processed. |
After You Are Commissioned

Do not treat traditional in-person paper acts and registered electronic/remote acts as interchangeable until the electronic registration shows as processed.

Common Questions
Q: Can I apply for the online commission first?
A: No. At the time of electronic registration you must be an active Nevada notarial officer and have completed electronic-notary training and exam.
Q: Does Nevada approve a list of RON platforms?
A: You register the platform(s) you will use with the Secretary of State. Confirm current approved-provider instructions in the handbook and on SilverFlume. Do not treat any third-party vendor list as an SOS endorsement.
