Overview
Mississippi commissions traditional notaries for four years. The SOS also registers e-notaries for electronic records when the signer is in the notary’s physical presence. The current Notaries & Apostilles pages do not publish a permanent remote online notarization (RON) commissioning path. COVID-era remote authorization was tied to an emergency order. House bills that would create a RON framework are not treated as law on this checklist.

To be commissioned as a Mississippi notary public, you must meet all of the following:

File application, bond, and oath together. Commissions are delivered by email. Recheck the official notary pages before you treat RON as open.

Part 1: Traditional Mississippi Notary Commission
Skip this section if you already hold an unexpired Mississippi notary public commission. Remote online commissioning is not published as currently available on the official SOS notary pages.

Part 2: Online (RON) Commission
Not applicable as a current SOS RON commissioning process. Keep this section so you can re-check the official site if the law changes. In-person electronic notarization, if you pursue it, is a different SOS e-notary registration.

Common Questions
Q: Can I apply for the online commission first?
A: No. Mississippi does not currently publish a RON commission on the official notary pages. Apply for a traditional commission. E-notary registration is a separate in-person electronic process, not RON.
Q: Does Mississippi approve a list of RON platforms?
A: No current SOS RON platform list is published as an in-effect commissioning program on the Notaries & Apostilles hub. Do not treat expired emergency-order vendor lists as current law.
